CAVE. A live-streaming platform for Climate Action’s events, designed during the pandemic.
The brief
Climate Action runs sustainability and climate-policy conferences for corporates, NGOs and the civil service — the kind of event built on expo-hall corridors, business-card exchanges and packed panel rooms. 2020 cancelled all of that overnight, and a bare video call couldn't replace it: sponsors still needed a stand, delegates still needed to find each other, and a full day's agenda still needed a home.
The brief was to design a virtual venue, not a webinar: something a corporate sponsor or a returning delegate could walk into and understand immediately, with no first-day tutorial required.
The work
Four surfaces carry the event: an exhibitor profile standing in for the sponsor stand (logo, contact details, downloadable resources, a live chat line to the stand team), a searchable networking directory with live status and bookmarking, a structured agenda that tracks what's live and what's next, and the livestream itself, with chat, bookmarks and Q&A running alongside the video rather than bolted on after.
Built on the Nerv design system so the interface read as familiar rather than novel, deliberately close to the event platforms delegates already knew, so the pandemic stayed the only unfamiliar part of the day.
